Rock ‘N’ Soul Museum
The Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum’s exhibition about the birth of rock and soul music, created by the Smithsonian Institution, tells the story of musical pioneers who, for the love of music, overcame racial and socio-economic barriers to create the music that shook the entire world. The body of music that had the most influence on the culture and lifestyles of the world during the middle 20th Century unto this day.
The Memphis ZOO
There are lots of worlds to explore at The Memphis Zoo and more than 3,500 animals from over 500 species call it home. The zoo’s animal inhabitants reside in three zones with 19 exhibits, such as Teton Trek, Northwest Passage and China, home to Giant Pandas Ya Ya and Le Le. Remember, there is always more to Zoo!
Graceland
Graceland, home to Elvis Presley, is located at 3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard. It currently serves as a museum and was opened to the public on June 7, 1982. The site is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and declared a National Historic Landmark on March 27, 2006. Graceland has become one of the most-visited private homes in America with over 600,000 visitors a year, behind the White House.
The Peabody Hotel
Built in 1869, The Peabody Hotel is a luxury hotel in Downtown Memphis. The hotel is known for the “Peabody Ducks” that live on the hotel rooftop and make daily treks to the lobby. The Peabody Memphis is a member of Historic Hotel of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Beale Street
Beale Street, named for a forgotten military hero, runs from the Mississippi River to East Street in downtown Memphis. It is a significant location in the city’s history, as well as in the history of the blues. Today, the blues clubs and restaurants that line Beale Street are major tourist attractions in Memphis with festivals and outdoor concerts periodically bringing large crowds to the street and its surrounding areas.
